What a day to host the Chief Fire officers' Trophy....the sun was out in full force as well as the competitors!with slick greens and quirky pin positions it proved to be a great day...
Div3:Being a medal round took its toll on all the players on the day as well as the higher handicap division.Dennis 'Maverick' Higgins showed some flashes of his previous form,But one man stood tall and was counted in the division as John 'ice man' Leonard took the spoils while others toiled in the blistering heat.A steady start put the Ice Man in a solid position and even though he suffered a double figure on his card John had the composure and endeavour to see out the remainder of his round to take the podium spot in division 3 with a very hard working and deserved nett 77.A truly remarkable round of golf from one of the societies' Gentlemen.
Div2:A day when the putts just wouldnt roll in....this was the same old tale from all upon return to the clubhouse and the second division was where the excuses were rolled out in force.A very competitive division with Lee Lomas posting an early marker with a creditable Nett 76.A steady front nine showed some of Lee's Steady nerves but alas the back nine took hold and too many putts cost Lee a better score. He wasnt alone as Paul 'Hessy' Hesford and Lee 'Youngfaldo' Burns both posted nett 76 scores with 'Youngfaldo' having trouble with his putter missing 'tap in' Birdies on the day and not taking a podium spot. The top spots were earned by Stuart Thompson with a very creditable nett 75,even with a snowman on the card!! But the spoils go to Roy 'Woody' Wood...fresh from major surgery on his hand he produced a very steady nett 74 to take the second division Mantle and richly deserved indeed!
Div1:Of course we all know that this is where our 'Proffessionals' are situated and they duly obliged with some great golf and great scores.First up was Vice Captain' Carl Gleaves. It seemed that Carl Couldnt miss,Front nine but a three putt caused a stir and a couple of holes cost him a great score. He finished with a Nett 72 when it looked like a super score was on the cards. The two heavyweights of the division rightly took their place at the podium with Mark Riley producing his usual magic and a well earned Nett 68 on the day.But to Ross Birch the spoils as a Nett 66 showed his prowess albeit his overtures at not holling a putt all day long rang around the course.a fantastic round of golf From Ross and the well deserved and earned winner of the Chief Fire officers' Trophy!!!
There were only two 2's on the day with Lee Lomas claiming one on the 3rd hole and Doc Roberts with a fabulous 2 on the tough 11th!!!
The Two nearest the pins were claimed by YoungFaldo Lee Burns on the 3rd and The ever Youthful Doc Roberts on the Tough 11th!!
A magnificent Day all round and with a great weather forecast again we will see you all at Swinton Park on the 19th August 2019
